Akufo-Addo is lucky; Anas nearly disgraced him – Kennedy Agyapong

But for God’s intervention, ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, would have exposed and disgraced President Akufo-Addo with his Number12 documentary on football corruption, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central has observed.
He said President Akufo-Addo was lucky the investigations were truncated else he could have been exposed and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have taken advantage, spin the issues and denigrate the president.
Speaking on Oman FM’s political talk programme – Boiling Point – on Thursday night, Mr. Agyapong asked New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to thank God for intervening for President Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Agyapong had been out of town for some weeks and only returned this week to continue his campaign of lifting the veil on Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
On the political talk programme Thursday night, he called on NPP members to rally behind and support him [Agyapong] in the fight against Anas and that when a member of the NDC [a doctor] who knows the truth recently offered to defend former GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, the NDC summoned him to the party headquarters and advised him to stay away since Nyantakyi was an NPP man.
Mr. Agyapong argued such moves saddens him when he reflects on what pertains within his party the NPP, adding that members of the NPP are rather rejecting one of their own and cannot come together.
Per the information and evidence I have gathered, if President Akufo-Addo after watching the video, became scared and tried to influence Anas with money, the journalist would have disgraced him, the NPP maverick lawmaker said
“He [Anas] was going to show the thing to Nana, to put fear in him so that Nana Addo will pay, but the man [Nana Addo] didn’t” falter,’ he alleged.
Mr Agyapong said Anas truncated the investigations because the BBC was mounting pressure and that instead of focusing on football corruption, because of Nyantakyi’s plenty and ‘loose talk’, the whole investigation was gradually turning to focus on President Akufo-Addo and his government, something he said Kweku Baako himself, Anas’s mentor had publicly admitted in many radio and television discussion programmes.
Reiterating his allegations of fraud against the ace journalist for which he has been sued for defamation, Mr. Agyapong said Anas, for instance, investigated 55 customs officers and only showed the video of 11, insisting that those who were able to pay him, were not shown in the video.
He insisted $150,000 was demanded from Kwesi Nyantakyi because a friend from Roman Ridge [Accra] approached him [Nyantakyi] and said Anas was ready to drop the documentary if he paid him, “I dare Anas and Kweku Baako to come out and deny this,” Mr. Agyapong said.
After that, he approached a lawyer and the lawyer collected $100,000 from Nyantakyi to be given to Anas but Anas refused to take the money and as of now, Nyantakyi has not even received the money back [money still with the said lawyer].
This, according to Mr. Agyapong was as a result of Nyantakyi’s ‘loose talk’ such that even when he was releasing the money, he passed some comments which Anas got to know about. That is why Anas allegedly refused to accept the money besides the fact that the $100,000 was not up to the $150,000 demanded.
Mr. Agyapong said already, from the Number12 documentary, even though it was evidently clear that President Akufo-Addo did not condone with Kwesi Nyantakyi, the NDC was spinning it in an attempt to denigrate the President.
He insisted he [Agyapong] has his reputation on the line and that if he had no evidence to back his outbursts against Anas, he would have kept quiet.
He said throughout his recent international trip through America and other areas, “everybody is waiting for ‘Who watches the watchman’.”
