The national communications officer of NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has called on members and supporters of the NDC to defend themselves in the ongoing violence that has plagued the Ayawaso by-election.
He explained that the constitution of Ghana allows for people to defend themselves in the face of attacks, therefore, the NDC members should do that.
“Defend yourself with whatever weapon you have. Whether gun, knife, whatever you have, just defend yourself,”
Gyamfi said with emphasis in the Twi language.
According to him, members of the NDC are not fearful as people may think, adding that they were capable of equally responding to the violence with violence.
Sammy Gyamfi further sent a strong caution to President Akufo Addo in particular, and the NPP in general, accusing them of foiling the smooth flow of the elections with violence.
He said the blood of all those shot injured rest on the head of the NPP and they would pay for it. He added that for the sake of peace and the lives of NDC supporters, the party has withdrawn from the election and asked all members to go home.
While the NDC has announced its disinterest in continuing with the election, the NPP has blamed it for fomenting trouble in the constituency when there was none. Reports also have it that some men clad in black T-shirts were at polling stations in the constituency and beating up people.
