Ghana Infectious Disease Center to be commissioned on Friday

Ghana Infectious Disease Center GIDC to be commissioned: Ghana’s first-ever infectious disease center is ready to be commissioned on Friday, July 24, 2020.

The facility, which was intended to be made up of a 100 beds, now has an extra 5-bed space, and it comprises of a 21-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 79 beds for moderate or semi severe cases, three beds for triaging and two beds for isolation.

The infectious disease facility is an initiative of the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, with support from the Bank of Ghana, the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) including some banks.
Managing Trustee of the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, Senyo Hosi told ABC News the facility is the first of the projects to be undertaken by the fund across the country.

“We have a practical completion and we will be having a commission this Friday…we have dedicated the 21-bed ICU to the Bank of Ghana for the support they gave us – they were our largest donor,” Mr. Hosi indicated.

The facility, which has been completed within a space of two months, has an in-built level 2.5 laboratory, which will soon graduate to a level 3 laboratory like the one at Noguchi on full completion.

Mr. Hosi, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), said the facility has been equipped with all kinds of digital technologies available in infectious disease centers around the world to enhance treatment of COVID-19 patients.

“It also has equipment in all the facilities every single bed has its digital vital sign monitors, patient monitors in the ICU and some highly intensive care units also have the ventilators,” he added.

Mr. Hosi urged all Ghanaians to embrace the project as a “Ghana” project and not politicize it.
