“Honorable Member for Tamale North, Kindly leave the house” – Speaker sacks Suhuyini from Parliament House

The opposition Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, was ordered to leave the floor of parliament on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, by first deputy speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu.

Classfmonline.com reports that the incident happened when Alhassan Suhuyini was disrupting proceedings of the house after the majority side had moved a motion demanding that the minority apologize for how they treated Lydia Seyram Alhassan on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.

The minority had referred to the new Ayawaso West Wuogon MP as a “Bloody Widow”. As the video below shows, the deputy speaker who found the conduct of Alhassan Suhuyini unbecoming of a lawmaker was quoted as saying: “Honourable Member for Tamale North, Kindly leave the house.” Alhassan Suhuyini left the house amidst disapproving shouts from the Minority side, Appiah Sarpong reported.

The second deputy majority leader of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam, had early on in the day, moved a motion on the floor of parliament asking the Minority to apologize to Alhassan.

He backed his motion with Standing Order 93(2), which reads: “It shall be out of order to use offensive, abusive, insulting, blasphemous or unbecoming words or to impute improper motives to any member or to make allusion.”

The minority MPs said they boycotted Alhassan’s investiture because they did not want to give credence to her victory in the by-election on Thursday, 31 January 2019, which was characterized by violence.
