NIA re-schedules nationwide distribution of cards

NIA re-schedules nationwide distribution: The National Identification Authority (NIA) has delayed its intention to distribute registration cards to those who are yet to receive them by two days.

The Authority on Friday announced that it would begin the distribution of the cards from Monday, June 8 at 5,635 centers to be mounted in all 16 regions.

It was to end on Tuesday, June 16.

But the exercise will now start on Wednesday, June 10.

A statement issued by the Head of Corporate Affairs, ACI Francis Palmdeti, on Monday, June 8 insinuated that personal protective equipment (PPEs) meant for officers have not reached all centers.

“The National Identification Authority (NIA) announces for the information of the general public that its Ghana Card Issuance Exercise scheduled to begin today, Monday 8^thJune 2020 in all 16 regions concurrently has been rescheduled to Wednesday 10^th June 2020 to enable the NIA to complete the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Registration Centres.”

The NIA has estimated that approximately 3,875,441 printed cards will be issued, translating into an estimated 11,062,850 Ghanaians in total receiving their Ghana Cards.

This, the NIA was convinced, will enable them not only to vouch for other Ghanaians to register for theirs but also enable them to register as voters and vouch for others.

A mop-up exercise has also been scheduled by the NIA from Thursday, June 18 to mid-September to enable those who are yet to register to do so.

“All Registration Centres will be equipped with the requisite resources to ensure the effective observance of all prescribed health and safety protocols,” the NIA had said in its statement on Friday.

“In addition, security personnel will be deployed at each Registration Centre to ensure that crowd control measures such as physical distancing and appointment system are strictly observed,” it added.

“Applicants attending at NIA card collection centers MUST wear a mask and wash their hands before they begin the card collection process.”
