President Akufo-Addo receives special commendation at George Floyd’s funeral service in the US; President Akufo-Addo has received a special mention at the ongoing funeral service being held in honour of African-American, George Floyd at Houston in the United States of America.

The President is being commended for his solidarity message and for organizing a memorial for Floyd under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

Addressing some 500 guests at the funeral service, Tuesday, June 9, 2020, popular philanthropist and Director of Social Responsibility at Parkwood Entertainment, Ivy McGregor on behalf of the deceased family expressed appreciation for the kind gesture of President Akufo Addo.

“We would like to acknowledge the message of solidarity, resolution, and a visual tribute for H.E Nana Akufo-Addo the President of Ghana. Yesterday during the memorial, a video produced by the people of Ghana was broadcast with thousands of mourners as they paid their final respect for Mr. Floyd.”

“The family is honored by President Akufo-Addo for the decision to have Mr. Floyd’s name prominently mounted at the historic wall at the Diaspora African Forum and the W.E.B Dubois center in Africa.”

The funeral is the final rites being organized for the 46-year-old black American whose shocking death in police custody caused global outrage.

It carried with it an all too painful familiarity and an ugly reminder. It cannot be right that, in the 21st century, the United States, this great bastion of democracy, continues to grapple with the problem of systemic racism.

On behalf of the people of Ghana, I express my deep condolences to the family and loved ones of the late George Floyd.

We stand with our kith and kin in America in these difficult and trying times, and we hope that the unfortunate, tragic death of George Floyd will inspire a lasting change in how America confronts head-on the problems of hate and racism”…
