Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited John Dekyem Attafuah has been removed from office on the directive of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
His deputy MD has been asked to act in his stead until a substantive managing director is appointed, Aviation Minister Kofi Adda told journalists Friday.
It is unclear what prompted the President’s decision but when asked, the Aviation Minister said the President reserves the right to hire and fire.
“It is the discretion of the President; his appointments are based on what he deems fit for the nation. I can be here I can be out any moment, so that is up to the president to decide,” Mr. Adda explained.
According to the Aviation Minister, the Board of the Ghana Airports Company has been duly informed about the sacking of the MD and will work closely with the Acting MD until a new one is appointed.
The former MD, Mr. Attafuah took over from Mr. Charles Asare in March 2017 after the latter resigned.
Mr. Attafuah, a Management Consultant was the Managing Director of Virtual Access Limited, a market research company and had also served as the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority prior to his appointment as MD of the GACL.
