How to avoid long queues at the SIM registration centers

The Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Communication and the National Communications Authority in collaboration with the telecommunication companies in Ghana commenced the nationwide re-registration of all Subscriber Identity Modulo (SIM) cards. This process mandatorily requires a Ghana Card and the Ghana Post  GPS Code of all subscribers in order to be registered.

The registration has been grouped into two stages; stage one involves the pre-registration of the subscriber’s SIM number using a USSD code *404# on all networks. Stage two requires the subscriber to physically go to the respective mobile/broadband network operator’s office with the Ghana Card and the GPS Code to complete the registration.

How to pre-register your SIM number with the USSD Code *404# and the Ghana Card ID

The pre-registration of the SIM number is to be undertaken by the subscriber on a mobile phone. This completes stage one of the registration process. Follow the steps below to complete this process;

  1. Dial *404# on your mobile device irrespective of the network.
  2. Select option 1 to register
  3. Enter your Ghana Card Personal ID with the hyphens
  4. Confirm the ID by re-entering it.
  5. Enter your Surname
  6. Enter your Firstname(s)
  7. Enter your Date of Birth in the format (ddmmyyyy)
  8. Select your gender (sex)
  9. confirm the summary of your details by entering 1.
  10. You should see a confirmation pop-up text confirming the successful linkage of your Ghana Card with your SIM number. Dial *400# to see your unique registration code which you will use to complete stage two at your network operator’s office.

Note that completing stage one on your own makes the stage two process faster and this will help you avoid the long queues at the SIM registration centers. The registration will end nationwide in March 2022, and all SIM cards that have not been registered during that period will be blocked permanently.
