Twenty-five (25) persons, including the driver and conductor of a minivan bound for Kumasi from Sefwi-Adwoafua, were robbed at gunpoint Monday morning in the Ahafo region, MyNewsGh.com reports.
Gunshots were fired at the van with registration number AC-760-15 by four gunmen who had laid an ambush in the Sankore Forest Reserve in the Asunafo South District, one of the victims told Kumasi-based Angel FM at midday.
One passenger was shot in the chest and had been rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital at the time of filing this story; “it was around 9:30 and we heard gunshots from the forest; four heavily built gun-wielding men emerged from the woods and aimed at our van”, a male passenger said.
A female passenger who said she lost GHC12, 000 in the robbery said the women on the bus were sexually molested; “they dragged us all down and inserted their hands into our brassieres and panties; one lady was even menstruating but they pulled her sanitary pad out, suspecting she had hidden her money in her underwear”, she narrated.
District Chief Executive for Asunafo South, Hon. Osei Bonus Snr confirmed the incident in an interview with Angel News and said police patrol on that road would be increased.
He attributed the growing incidences of highway robbery in the area to the deplorable nature of the road and pledged of government’s commitment to getting it fixed soon.
