[dropcap]A[/dropcap] leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Otchere-Darko has given an update on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s health after visiting him at his London base.

The Vice President traveled to the United Kingdom (UK) last Friday to catch some rest. The news of Dr. Bawumia’s ill health was disclosed in a release by the Chief of Staff, Frema Opare, who stated that he left the country in the company of his wife, Samira Bawumia, on the advice of his doctors.

A lot has been said since his departure to London to seek medical care, with reports from certain quarters suggesting he is suffering from stroke.

These claims have been advanced on social media by some Ghanaians, who are perceived to be sympathisers of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, Mr Gabby Otchere-Darko has revealed that the Vice President is fine and is responding well to treatment.

In a Facebook post, the politician said he visited Dr. Bawumia at his flat in London and not in a hospital.

According, to him, reports suggesting the Vice President has stroke are false and must be disregarded. Gabby Otchere-Darko wrote:

“I am told Guys Hospital staff are very unhappy. Many Ghanaians trooping there asking to see a patient they’d never heard of – not even his picture rings any visual bells – don’t believe what you read in NDC ‘news’.

“Well, I’m in London and have had opportunities to spend some good, jovial and intellectual sweet moments with Dr Bawumia but far from the view of any nurse or doctor; in some small, decent flat he has rented for the very short time he is away here on leave. My mistake was to attempt to tease him about his team, Tottenham Hotspurs. I wish I hadn’t!”
