Dr. Ali Gabass, now a prisoner serving a 25-year jail term in the Nsawam prison has been engaged by the University of Cape Coast to be part of its faculty to lecture the university’s student-inmates of the Nsawam prison, ABC News can report.
A total of fifty-nine inmates of the Nsawam medium-security prisons on Saturday, January 18, 2020, had their matriculation ceremony at the Nsawam Prisons to study as distant students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
According to the University, the programme is designed such that weekend lecture sessions will be held by University lecturers and industry professionals for inmates who are ready to acquire new knowledge.
One of these industry professionals is Dr. Ali Gabass, a medical doctor who is also serving a jail term in the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, ABC News can confirm.
Speaking to reporters after the matriculation, Dr. Ali Gabass confirmed that he has been engaged to be a member of the professional faculty who will partner with lecturers from the University of Cape Coast to lecture these inmates.
He expressed his appreciation to Allah for such an opportunity indicating that he is very happy for being useful even while in prison.
“I will thank the Almighty Allah for actually making me part of this programme. I have accepted it because, for me, that will be something that I can take home with me that being in prison, I’m still helpful, for me that is the pleasure,” Dr. Ali Gabass told reporters.

Dr. Ali Gabass was a medical doctor at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region. He was jailed for 25 years for sodomising a 16-year-old senior high school student.
