Lawless Akufo-Addo must be arrested for supporting EC’s illegal meeting – Otukonor

Deputy General Secretary of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, National Democratic Congress, Peter Boamah Otukonor has called for the arrest of President Akufo-Addo for allegedly assisting the Electoral Commission (EC) in the latter’s flagrant breaches of the law.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo is in full support of the Electoral Commission (EC) to perpetuate alleged illegalities.

Otukonor said that he is very surprised the Ghana Police Service has failed to ensure the Electoral Commission (EC) complies with the ex-parte injunction against the EC hence he believes that government authorities are behind the Police’s inability to work.

“I’m very surprise that the Police could not stop Electoral Commission meeting after Sam George’s Injunction, President Akufo-Addo is supporting the Electoral Commission illegality that is why they are not afraid to do what they are doing and I want the Ghana Police service to arrest President Akufo-Addo for supporting illegality,’’

“We reported to the Airport Police that there is an injunction but we hear the EC is having a meeting. Even if there was no injunction, the police have a natural order from the Executive Instrument that the president has issued to go and stop the meeting.” Peter Boamah Otukonor told Kwame Tutu on ‘Anopa Nkomo’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7.

Sam George secured an ex-parte injunction against the meeting in Prampram, which is within his constituency. The injunction is in place from April 24, 2020, to April 27, 2020.

The controversial law-maker led over 100 NDC supporters to the new venue in an attempt to disrupt the meeting, which observers believe would have led to violence without the police presence.
