Forget about Akyem Sakawa tag and let’s debate on issues – Mahama to Akufo-Addo
Forget about Akyem Sakawa: The flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has reminded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of his calls for a debate on sectors of the economy.
The former President sent this reminder when he was responding to the President’s call on the Catholic Bishops conference to condemn a post he [John Mahama] shared on his Facebook page.
Reminding the President of the call for a debate the former President said “you will remember that on two occasions in the recent past I’ve called for a debate with President Akufo-Addo he’s not found it worthy to respond to that call. I can understand Akufo-Addo’s frustration and desperation and deliberate attempt to whip up ethnic sentiments in this particular case. I don’t think it will wash.”
The former President said he has called for an issues-based campaign and therefore will be the last person to whip up ethnic sentiments.
“I’ve advocated a campaign of issues and that is what I’m focusing on as I engage and interact with people in my tour of this country. It is important for me to point out that no one has described his ethnic group or any other ethnic group in the manner in which the President mounts this complaint.”
On the substantive issue, the former President said he never described Akyems as Sakawa boys but just shared an article that makes specific mention of some members of Akufo-Addo’s family who were behind a fishy deal to rob the nation.
