Ghanaian midfielder shown red card for displaying “Jesus loves you” after scoring

A Ghanaian midfielder, Samuel Asamoah, who plays for Belgian side St. Truiden, received his marching orders after scoring a hatrick and partially taking off his jersey.

The 25-year-old footballer who is in ecstatic form for the Belgian side was the hero for his team after pulling a goal back whiles they were down and added 2 more goals to bring the score to 5-2.

Samuel Asamoah however could not see out the entire match as he was shown his second yellow card 12 minutes apart.

As is traditional in football, a second yellow card equates to a red card and causes the player to take an early shower.

In Asamoah’s case, his third goal got him overly excited and so emotional that he partially took off his shirt showing an inner shirt which had the inscription, “Jesus loves you”.

The central man indicated that he was aware that taking off one’s jersey was not allowed but he was carried away in the moment.

“Of course I knew that I was not allowed to do that. It was from sheer emotion that I did it. I am especially happy for our team and staff that we are playing such a good game and getting the three points,” he said.

He went on to also indicate that even though he was going to miss his team’s next fixture, he was sure his other teammates would see out a good result come the end of the day.

“I can’t remember when I scored three more times. It must have been a long time ago. I like it. It is a shame that I will have to miss next week’s game, but I have every confidence in our team.”

Samuel Asamoah has played 4 games so far for St. Truiden and has scored 4 goals.
