Accra High Court: All the 27 charges leveled against Dr Stephen Opuni former CEO of COCOBOD by the state have been rejected by Dr. Opuni.
Dr Stephen Opuni told the Accra High court today Monday, March 26, 2018, that he is not guilty of causing financial loss to the state.
Dr. Stephen Opuni is standing trial together with businessman Seidu Agongo and AgriCult Ghana Company Limited. The accused persons are facing 27 charges of willfully causing financial loss of GHS217million to the state, through three separate fertilizer supply contracts between 2014 and 2016.
The prosecution team was represented by Attorney General Gloria Akuffo and her two deputies Godfred Yeboah Dame and Joseph Dindiork-Kpenka as well as Chief State Attorney Evelyn Keelson, Principal State Attorney Frances Molen Ansah, Stella Ohene Appiah, Richard Gyenbibi and Penina Asa Dankwah.
The defence team representing Dr Stephen Opuni include Samuel Cudjoe and Johnson Normesinu. Agricult and Seidu Agongo are represented by Benson Nutsukpi, Joel Annor Afari, Emmanuel Kumadey and Jemima Dei.
Some NDC apparatchiks seen in court to sympathize with Dr Stephen Opuni were General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Organiser, Kofi Adams, former Attorney General Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong, MP and former deputy AG Dominic Ayine.
Others were former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, former ministers Shirley Ayitey, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Joseph Yamin, Armah Kofi Buah, Bede Zeideng amongst others.
