NPP reinstates Kwabena Agyei Agyapong after 6 years suspension
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has restored the membership of Kwabena Agyei Agyapong after a passionate appeal by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at a meeting held yesterday, 10 May 2021.
According to an Asaase News source who was at the NEC meeting, President Akufo-Addo argued that Agyepong has been punished enough and that Agyapong’s actions over the past four years, and particularly on behalf of the NPP’s Election 2020 campaign, point to a member of good standing in the party.
At the time of his suspension, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong was the sitting general secretary of the NPP. It will be recalled that about three months ago, he wrote to the NEC to consider rescinding its decision to suspend him indefinitely.

In his letter to the NEC, Agyepong pleaded with the council to lift its suspension of his party membership, which had been in place for six years. Agyepong, Paul Afoko (then NPP national chairman) and Sammy Crabbe (then a national vice-chairman) were all suspended by the NPP NEC for misconduct in 2015.
The National Executive Committee found Agyepong and the two others guilty of violating Article 3(d) of the party’s constitution, which enjoins members publicly to uphold the decisions of the party through their acts.
He was also accused of engaging in “unilateral actions and activities without consultation of, or authorization by the NEC”.
During President Akufo-Addo’s re-election bid in 2020, Agyepong was embedded with the Akufo-Addo campaign team throughout its tour of all 16 regions of Ghana.

He addressed dozens of rallies and made a case to support the president’s successful plea to Ghanaians to renew his mandate of the office.
