Burundi President dies of Heart attack
Burundi President dies: According to an update by the Burundi government, the President, Pierre Nkurunziza has died of a heart attack.
This was revealed in a statement released by the government on their official twitter account.
“The government of the Republic of Burundi announces with very great sadness the unexpected death of his excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, president of the republic of Burundi, occurred at the Cinquantenaire Hospital in karusi following a cardiac arrest this june 8 2020” the statement said.
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that, Burundi’s first lady Denise Bucumi Nkurunziza, wife of the deceased was airlifted to Kenya for COVID-19 treatment.
Though presidency did not release any update regarding her condition, Kenya’s Citizen Television reported that, “Her husband [President] Pierre Nkurunziza was not in the flight and she was accompanied by three bodyguards one who also tested positive”.
Despite many countries across the world implementing drastic measures to help contain the virus and prevent its further spread, Burundi did not impose any restriction.
