Health workers’ agitations show all is not well in Ghana – Manasseh Azure

Freelance investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has indicated that despite government’s reassuring briefings on the COVID-19 pandemic, the complaints and agitations by health workers, mainly nurses, show that all is not well in the fight against the pandemic.

“The COVID-19 briefings create the impression that all is well. The agitation by nurses and health workers shows all is not well,” he wrote on Facebook.

The government through regular briefings has assured Ghanaians that the country is well prepared to contain the pandemic except for a surmountable few hitches.

For instance, the government stated that it had enough personal protective equipment for health facilities at the forefront of containing the virus but nurses and other health workers have consistently complained about the lack of basic protective gear for their work.

Nurses at the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have had to boycott work over the lack of personal protective equipment after repeated appeals fell on death ears.
