I’m against the Anti-Gay bill in parliament – Gabby opens up

The direct cousin to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Gabby Otchere-Darko has revealed that he is against the so-called “Proper Human Sexuality and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021” popularly known as the Anti-Gay Bill which is currently being deliberated on at the parliament of Ghana.

According to Mr. Gabby, the fact that he is a Ghanaian and from a well-cultured home does not mean he should look down on the minorities. He affirmed that he will defend the right of minorities everywhere because he has a sense of justice to disagree with the majority.

In his tweet he wrote; “I am against the anti-gay bill & not shy to say so. I am a proud Ghanaian who cherishes all that is good about our value systems, including tolerance. And, I will defend the right of minorities everywhere. I have the courage and a sense of justice to disagree with the majority.”

Background of the Anti-Gay Bill in Parliament

Eight members of Parliament from both sides filed the anti-gay bill to outlaw Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI) practices in the country based on its culture, morality, and values. This has generated numerous reactions from both proponents and opponents, including religious folks, legal luminaries, and academics.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has indicated that the house would conduct an open hearing into the proposed Bill and a vote on it would be done publicly.
