Angel Can’t Even Stop Corruption in Ghana – Kwesi Pratt agrees with Agyebeng

One of Ghana’s senior journalist Mr. Kwesi Pratt Junior has applauded the incoming Special Prosecutor Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng for his bold comment on corruption fight in Ghana during his parliamentary vetting on last Thursday, 22 July 2021.

In answering a question from the vetting committee on how he is going to fight the growing corruption in the country, Mr. Agyebeng responded saying;

“I can’t stop corruption…rather, I will make corruption costly in the country.”

“…at the end of the year, publicize the results as to which institution is performing well and which institution is not performing well. In that quest, if you are the Head of an institution and persistently your institution is drawing the short straw in terms of perception of corruption, from the point of view of experts, from the point of view of business people, you will sit up.”

In responding to this comment of Lawyer Agyebeng from the vetting, seasoned journalist Kwesi Pratt on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show said;

”It’s true. Even if you appoint an Angel as Special Prosecutor, it’s not him alone who can eradicate corruption”.

He further stressed on the need for all to support the new Special Prosecutor in fighting the corruption in the country.

‘We’re watching him. We will offer him any help and encouragement he requires but he, himself, should do his work effectively and in accordance with the law”, he added.

The Special Prosecutor’s position became vacant after Mr. Martin Amidu shockingly resigned from the office in the heat of December 2020 elections. This deemed it necessary for the President of the Republic who created the Special Prosecutor’s Office to appoint a new Prosecutor to man the office.

President Akufo-Addo upon the Attorney General’s advice nominated Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng to take over the Special Prosecutor’s job.

Mr. Kissi Agyebeng has successfully gone through the vetting process in parliament and has been approved by the parliamentary appointment committee.

He is therefore expected to be sworn into office by the President very soon.
