Construction of the 88 hospitals to commence in July 2020 – Dr. Bawumia

The construction of 88 new hospitals promised by the Akufo-Addo led government is scheduled to begin in the next two months, Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced.

President Akufo-Addo, in a COVID-19 address to the nation, announced that the pandemic has exposed the need for the government to beef up Ghana’s healthcare delivery system.

With this, he revealed that his government has resolved to construct 88 new ultra-modern district hospitals to that effect.

In addition, health research centers and laboratories will also be constructed.

The announcement of these new hospitals generated national debate as members of the minority argued that instead of the government to construct new facilities, it should focus on completing abandoned projects initiated by the previous administration.

But speaking at the launch of a government scholarship scheme that seeks to absorb fees for Postgraduate Medical Doctors at the Jubilee House, Thursday morning, Vice President Dr. Bawumia made known that “the physical infrastructure will be there. By the next two months, if all goes well the 88 hospitals will all start across the country”.

Dr. Bawumia added, “we will all physically see them rise by the grace of God before the end of the year we would have made some significant progress at least I’m hoping we can roof all of them.”

The infrastructure, according to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia will be the largest investment in the country’s healthcare sector in the last fifty years.
