Hassan Ayariga on life support after contracting COVID-19

News reaching us confirms that Dr. Hassan Ayariga, Founder and 2020 Presidential candidate of All People’s Congress(APC) is currently in an intensive care on life support (name hospital not yet revealed) after he got infected with COVID-19.

Dr. Ayariga was heard publicly criticizing the vaccine when the President H.E Nana Akufo-Addo went to take his jab.

Ghana is the first country to take the vaccine, the president went and they gave him malaria vaccine and you call it corona vaccine, that was not corona vaccine. I’m sure he took malaria vaccine, that’s politics for you,” he claimed in one of his statements.

“You see, we Africans we are dumb! A white man will never give you something good first when it is too good before himself, never. They have produced all those vaccines.

Tell me, how many of these white countries have started taken the vaccine. Is it similar to what you are taking, they are testing their own and they are killing you,” he reiterated.

Currently in intensive care with life support on him, reports reaching AccraMail.com suggests that Dr. Ayariga has regretted for not taking the vaccine serious. In expressing how he feels, he said “it feels like someone is suffocating you”.

Nana Adwoa Takyi,

who helped deliver a baby on a plane from Ghana to the US

Meet Nana Adwoa Takyi, the beautiful Ghanaian nurse who helped deliver a baby on a plane from Ghana to the US; About three weeks ago, news about a woman who went into labor on a plane from Ghana to the US caused a stir on the internet.

Everybody who heard the news was elated about how this miraculous event took place.

The woman was believed to have gone into labor a month earlier than the due date for delivery. She was at 36 weeks when she went into labor.

Fortunately, there was a registered nurse and a doctor on board who sprang into action to ensure a safe delivery aboard.

“When we realized that the mom-to-be was going to give birth on the 11-hour flight, the flight attendant had to clear the area after opening up the emergency kit due to turbulence, Takyi said in an interview with our Accra mail team.

“The mom-to-be was a little bit concerned, especially about the baby, and she was in a lot of pain asking if we could give her anything and we knew that wasn’t possible”.

The team was particularly concerned because we didn’t have all the medical equipment we needed for the delivery at our disposal but had to improvise with the resources available.

All the same, we had to resume attending to the mother because the baby’s head was showing. To God’s glory, we had an uneventful delivery. Mummy and baby are doing well”, the beautiful Ghanaian nurse concluded.

Nana Adwoa Takyi, together with Dr. Stephen Ansah- Addo who is also a Ghanaian and a flight attendant who happened to be a former nurse did all they could to make sure the delivery was successful and without any complications.

Nolan was the youngest passenger on board.

Know your genotype and its implications before you get married

Know your genotype and its implications before you get married. People are now becoming more concerned about the genotype of their partners as this goes a long way to determine kind of children they bring forth.

Know your genotype

Know your genotype and its implications before you get married

Knowledge of Genotype has become one of the most discussed topics among people seeking to make life partners.

What then is Genotype?

According to the National Human Genome Research Institute, a genotype is an individual’s collection of genes. It defines two alleles inherited for a particular gene. The resulting phenotype (individual observable traits/features) is an expression of the genotype.

There are six (6) genotypes identified. They include;

  • AA
  • AS
  • AC
  • SS
  • SC
  • CC

A and S are traditionally considered normal and sickled alleles respectively. There is also a third allele C considered to be susceptible and it combines with normal allele A and sickle allele S to produce other genotypes.

AA is normal but susceptible to malaria, AS individuals are not severely debilitated, but they are resistant to malaria, SS individuals are severely affected and rarely survive to reproduce. AC is normal but susceptible to malaria, SC has mild anemia and CC is normal and resistant to malaria.

Sickle cell is a great concern to people as it presents different issues that can psychologically, socially, and economically affect individuals. It is therefore very important to understand your genotype and that of your partner before you decide on giving birth. People with sickle cell usually experience severe bodily pains where oxygen flow is compromised due to the blockage in the blood vessels.

The chart below explains the various genotypes and their combined effects. From the chart, it can be seen that people with AA genotype are safe to marry persons with any of the genotypes. With the exception of AA, the compatibility of AS, SS, and AC is very risky and therefore requires advice from health professionals.

Genotype 1 Genotype 2 Possible Outcome Remark
AA AA AA, AA, AA, AA Safe/Excellent
AA AS AA, AS, AA, AS Safe/Good
AA SS AS, AS, AS, AS Fair
AA AC AA, AA, AA, AC Safe/Good
AS AS AA, AS, AS, SS Risky/Very Bad
AS SS AS, SS, SS, SS Risky/Very Bad
AS AC AA, AC, AS,SS Bad; seek advice
SS SS SS, SS, SS, SS Very Risky/Very Bad
AC SS AS, AS, SS, SS Risky/Very Bad
AC AC AA, AC, AC, SS Bad; seek advice

It is therefore very important to run some blood tests with your partner to be sure of your genotypes and their implications. Health professionals can advise you on the best ways to handle the situation.

Never throw away your watermelon seeds, this is why.

Never throw away your watermelon seeds, This is why.

Never throw away your watermelon seeds, This is why; Native to the African continent, watermelon is a large juicy berry that is usually grown from April to June. It is an ideal fruit to keep people hydrated in summer as it contains above 90 per cent water. The black seeds of the fruit are also consumed as roasted snacks or used as flour. Watermelon seeds provide several health benefits; some of which have been mentioned below:

Here are some Health Benefits of Watermelon Seeds

  • Provides essential nutrients

Watermelon seeds are nutrient rich.  They contain the proteins globulin and albumin, which collectively aids our immune system, helps fight infections and maintains the fluid levels in our bloodstream. The seeds also contain minerals like magnesium, iron and zinc, which are essential for our metabolic functions as well as vitamin C, B complex and amino acids.

  • Protects the heart

High levels of LDL-cholesterol cause a rise in fat deposits in our arteries and raise the risk of arterial blockage and heart attacks. Watermelon seeds contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids which reduce LDL-cholesterol or “bad” cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.

  • Lowers blood pressure

Those suffering from high blood pressure levels should consume watermelon seeds. They contain magnesium, which helps lower high blood pressure and even helps make the antihypertensive drugs more effective.

  • Controls diabetes

Watermelon seeds are also said to be good for patients who suffer from elevated blood sugar levels. Studies suggest that the presence of magnesium in watermelon seeds helps manage insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels.

  • Heals wounds

Watermelon seed contains a high concentration of the amino acid L-arginine. As per research, L-arginine increases nitric oxide levels, which in turn helps heal wounds faster.

  • Maintains skin and hair integrity

Watermelon seeds contain antioxidants that protect our skin by preventing oxidative damage from free radicals, which causes ageing. Magnesium and zinc present in the seeds are also said to strengthen hair.

  • Benefits to men

They are considered a good source of iron, magnesium and zinc. What’s most interesting about the nutrition in watermelon seeds when it comes to men’s health is that these are three key nutrients for sexual health. A deficiency in iron can cause fatigue. Magnesium is involved in sex hormone production. And zinc is sometimes called the “man’s mineral,” because it is essential for prostate and sperm health. Who knew watermelon seeds were so healthy?
