Thieves steal 50 kilometers railway steel tracks worth $250million

Nearly 50 kilometers of the nearly constructed railway steal lines have been stolen nationwide resulting in over $250 million loss to the state. According to the Ghana Railway Authority, a kilometer of the railway track is estimated at $5million.

Chunks of the rail metal track and steel sleepers were stolen over the course of several months from  Ejisu, Konongo, Juaso, Obuasi-Dunkwa-Prestea, Akrokeri, Kaasi, Asafo, through to Asawase.

Upon a tip off, the police in Ejisu-Juaso made a hot chase and arrested 10 suspects who were caught stealing portions of the Ejisu-Konongo rail lines. They were processed  for court at Ejisu and currently 4 people have been sentenced to 4 years jail terms each.

Three of the suspects have been identified as Kwadwo Gyamfi, Daniel Appiah, Baffour Samuel, who are in custody of the Juaso Police, pending prosecution.

Arrested suspects caught stealing the rail lines

These came to light during an inspection by the Deputy Minister of Railway Development, Kwaku Asante-Boateng.

The thieves, it was revealed cut the rail, about 40 feet, into pieces with specialized machines and cart them during the night, to sell to scrap dealers.

Mr. Asante-Boateng, also Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem South in Ashanti, believed a syndicate was behind the stealing of the metals and asked the media to help in sounding caution to the general public to put an end to the canker.

“If we are to fix the country, there is the need to fix our attitude first, what is going on is just appalling, there should be an end to this,” he lamented.

He admitted that for the past 20 years no train had been seen on the railway leading to the industry going down and government trying to revive it.

The Deputy Minister said government had developed a master plan to bring back the railway system and had awarded a contract to David Walter Company to start a new line from Kejetia to Kaasi and another contract to continue to Obuasi.

In the Western Region, he said the government had started a new line from Sekondi-Takoradi and “now almost at Tarkwa, but this is not to say that the old track is not good, because we can still use them”.

“We are borrowing money to finance these projects and now, look at the situation we find ourselves in,” he questioned.

The MP reiterated his call on the media to sensitise the public on the happenings to ensure the development became a thing of the past, stressing “we want to put an end to it”.

He, therefore, appealed to the public to report anyone seen weeding along the railway lines to the police saying “most of such people are thieves, as they hide the cut metals in the bush” and cart them away in the night.

Accra Doctor kills a newly-wed patient after mistakenly cutting her intestines

Accra Doctor kills a newly-wed patient: It has come to light that a supposed medical doctor in Accra has caused the untimely death of a newly married woman after a botched medical operation to rid the woman of fibroid.

The woman had sought medical attention just six months after her marriage. In the course of the operation, the doctor mistakenly cut three of her intestines and stitched them up again. He however did not inform the woman of the mistake and the measure that was taken to remedy it. The woman was just let to go home without a word.

Later, the woman fell gravely ill and was taken to the hospital for medical attention. Initially, she was mistakenly diagnosed with coronavirus. It turned out the diagnosis was wrong after several tests.

As her situation got worse, her father informed the medical personnel that she had undergone a medical procedure to remove the fibroid.

Doctors then operated upon her and realized that the stitching on her intestines had given way and her excreta were mixed up contaminating her blood. The contaminated blood had already reached her brain and nothing could be done to save her life.

The medical doctor and the facility in which the operation was done is yet to be made public but a social media storm has greeted the news since a user made it public with the following comments:

NDC will not win in court - Lord Hamah

A former member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mike Hamah has said that it’s game over for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the is no way the Supreme Court is ruling in the favour of the NDC in the impending election petition.

To him, the NDC’s attempt to go to court is just an appetite for the elitists’ ambition and nothing else.

“Supreme court will not give ruling for the NDC. it is only an appetite for elitist ambition. The battle is over,” he said in a post on Facebook.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to present its petition to the Supreme Court to challenge the 2020 election result.

The party will present the petition on December 30 and this will be the second time in the fourth republic that the results of the Presidential election will be challenged.
