The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Gyamfi has finally revealed that the main opposition political party will partake in the new voter registration to be conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The revelation by Sammy Gyamfi follows a series of demonstrations and press conferences by the NDC calling on the EC to discard the idea of ever embarking on the compilation of a new voters register.
The NDC has threatened mayhem if the Jean Mensah led EC goes ahead with the compilation of new voters register for the 2020 elections.
General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has argued at a press conference that the EC was abandoning reason to pursue an agenda that only favours the sitting President, Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP.
He further accused Jean Mensa-led EC of seeking to cause financial loss to the state.
“It is either Jean Mensa and her sponsors have a financial interest in the procurement of entirely new equipment or that the compilation of a new register is part of a rigging agenda for the benefit of NPP or both”.
“At this stage, we wish to remind Jean Mensa and the Electoral Commission of the ingredients of the law on Willfully Causing Financial Loss to the State as brilliantly espoused by Late Justice Afreh of blessed memory in the famous quality grain case”.
“Financial loss must have occurred. This means that the state spent more money than necessary on the project, whether or not the benefit of the project was more than sufficient to cover the cost,” Asiedu Nketia said at a press conference.
Commenting on this on Peace FM on Wednesday, Sammy Gyamfi revealed that the NDC is ready to seek legal redress if the EC insists on going ahead with the compilation of a new voters register.
He, however, revealed to the host of Kokrokoo, Kwami Sefa Kayi that the NDC will encourage its members to partake in the registration exercise if the several attempts fail.
