NPP forced Kufuor to speak at Bawumia's UPSA Lecture

Adakabre Frimpong Manso Reveals Unplanned Inclusion of Former President Kufuor in Bawumia’s Lecture

In a surprising twist of events, Lawyer Adakabre Frimpong Manso has disclosed that Former President John Agyekum Kufuor was unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight during Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s lecture at the UPSA auditorium on February 7, 2024.

During his morning show on Neat FM, Adakabre asserted that President Kufour, originally slated to travel to Kumasi for the celebration of the 150 years of the Sagrenti War, found himself addressing the audience at the lecture after Vice President Bawumia personally approached him.

Adakabre, who once ran as a vice-presidential candidate alongside Akua Donkor, founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party, claimed that Kufour was essentially coerced into participating and speaking at the event.

Addressing his audience on February 15, 2024, Adakabre cautioned against using Kufour’s impromptu presence as a basis for political interpretations. He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s respectful plea for Kufour’s attendance should not be misconstrued as an endorsement by the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) president, especially considering Bawumia’s role as the party’s flagbearer.

“The JA Kufour Cup should not necessarily be affiliated with Bawumia, and people should not use his attendance as a special guest of honour to not attend,” Adakabre emphasized.

Furthermore, he highlighted that Kufour’s unplanned participation and speech should be seen as a personal decision rather than a political endorsement. Adakabre noted, “So, he was surprised when they asked him to speak, and he said what he wanted to say. So, his position was that of him and not NPP.”

As the controversy surrounding Kufour’s involvement unfolds, the upcoming J.A. Kufuor Cup between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 18, 2024, aims to honor the former President’s profound legacy and conclude his 85th birthday celebration.
