Police CID has invited Ofosu Ampofo over the leaked tape

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service CID has invited Ofosu Ampofo the Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress over circulating leaked tapes.

In the leaked recording of an alleged meeting of the party’s communicators, a voice believed to be that of Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, reveals militia groups were brought to the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election by both parties – NPP and NDC.

Contrary to earlier claims, the Chairman is heard confessing that members of the NDC-aligned militia group, Azorka Boys, were brought from Tamale to the constituency.

He said the NPP-aligned Kandahar Boys were also brought there.

While maintaining the decision of the NDC to withdraw from the Ayawaso-West Wuogon by-elections was “not a cowardice decision” but “strategic operation”, the voice said the main motive for the said withdrawal was because the NDC’s militia, Azorka boys, on election day were outnumbered by those of the NPP, the Kandahar boys.

The voice is then heard laying out an elaborate plan to pursue not just those involved in the attacks at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections but their family members as well.

“We will go after them. But we will not go after them face to face. We have to use tactical approaches to make life very uncomfortable for some of them.

We will target some people and we will let people know that their lives are in danger.

I want to assure you that we will go all out to ensure that as President John Mahama said, when it comes to this game, in fact, we are better than them,” the voice said.

The contents of the recording have both been denied and confirmed by the officials of the party who allegedly attended the meeting.

A statement released by the party said the tapes have been doctored and “mischievously attributed to the National Chairman of the NDC.”

The party says it is considering all legal options available to it and will take appropriate steps to halt this phenomenon immediately.

But the police have taken up the issue.

They have, in a statement, asked Mr. Ofosu Ampofo to report to the Deputy Director-General, ACP George Tweneboah at 10:00AM on Thursday.
