1. Ashesi University

Established in the year 2002 by Patrick Awuah, a Ghanaian who spent over 15 years living and working in the United States, Ashesi University is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the rural setting of the village of Berekuso (population range of under 2,500 inhabitants), Eastern Region.

2. Valley View University

 

Founded in 1979, Valley View University is a private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Accra (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Greater Accra.

This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Techiman, Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi.

Officially accredited and/or recognized by the National Accreditation Board, Ghana (National Accreditation Board, Ghana), Valley View University (VVU) is a large coeducational higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian-Adventist religion.

3.  Central University

Central University was founded in 1988 by the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Accra, Ghana. It started off as a pastoral training institute. It was then known as the Central Bible College by June 1991.

It later became the Central Christian College in 1993 and eventually became the Central University College in 1997. It was founded in 1998 as a pastoral school in Dansoman.

Among the stated aims of the university is to provide an “integrated and biblically-based tertiary e1ucation with particular reference to the needs of the African continent”. It is currently the biggest private university in Ghana.

In January 2016, the University College received the Presidential Charter to become an autonomous and a fully-fledged university as Central University.

The University currently offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in  Christian Theology, Business Administration, Architecture, Economics, Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Law and a selected number of modern languages including French.

4. Regional Maritime University

 

The Regional Maritime University is an international tertiary institution and private university.

The RMU occupies the premises of the old Ghana Nautical College which was established in 1958 to train ratings for the erstwhile State Shipping Corporation (Black Star Line). On 1 October 1982, the Government of Ghana promulgated the Regional Maritime Law 1982 which was followed by the signing of the instrument of transfer, handing over the college to the then Ministerial Conference of West and Central African States on Maritime Transport (MINCONMAR), now known as Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOWCA), which negotiated for its regionalization. The college was then renamed the Regional Maritime Academy (RMA).

The overall objective for the establishment of RMU was to promote regional co-operation in the maritime industry, focusing on the training to ensure the sustained growth and development of the industry. The RMU is a branch of the World Maritime University, Malmö, Sweden, and an affiliate of the University of Ghana, in Legon.

The university has working relations with other universities in the sub-region. The RMA has since December, 2004 been given institutional accreditation by the National Accreditation Board, Ghana.

In October 2007, the then President of Ghana, H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, gave the university a Presidential Charter to stand as an autonomous private university in the sub-region.

The university currently offers courses in Maritime Engineering, Maritime Studies, International Business, and many other Applied Sciences.
