Ken Agyapong rejects free COVID vaccines to Ghana, says he is ready to give Akufo-Addo $1m to buy them; Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong has said he is against the free supply of coronavirus vaccines to Ghana.
Speaking on his television station on Wednesday March 10, the businessman called on his fellow Ghanaian businessmen to rise and support the government procure the vaccines.
“I’m not bragging but I am prepared to give Akufo-Addo one million dollars to procure the vaccines,” he said.
“I don t like the idea of always going to the developed countries to beg for support as though we cannot do anything for ourselves,” he added.
Ghana received 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines from the Serum Institute of India.
The West African country became the first country to take delivery of the COVAX vaccines when it received the consignment at the Kotoko International Airport.
Already, the Vaccine Deployment Plan has been well received by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“The vaccine deployment plan we submitted to WHO, which unlocked this consignment, was well-received,” President Akufo-Addo said on Sunday, February 28 in a televised broadcast address to the nation.
“They have done a yeoman’s job, and our nation is indebted to them. We are grateful, also, naturally, to the contributors and managers of the COVAX Facility.”

Allotey Jacobs: I have dismissed myself from NDC; I support Akufo-Addo and Bawumia; Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has declared that he has dismissed himself from NDC.
To him, if the NDC says it has suspended him, he has also “dismissed” himself from the party.
He said he now supports President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, even though he is not a member of their political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he believes they were putting Ghana on the right track.
Mr. Allotey said this when he appeared on Accra-based Peace FM’s Kookrokoo radio program Wednesday morning [March 10, 2021], monitored by Graphic Online.
He told the host of the program, Kwami Sefa Kayi that he wanted to make it clear that, “that is why I have declared to support him [Akufo-Addo and his Vice President… I no longer belong to the NDC. I am not an NPP member, I’ll never be an NPP member.”
When he was prompted by the host, Kwami Sefa Kayi that the NDC has already suspended him, he responded that if they have suspended him, he has also resolved to “dismiss” himself from the party [NDC].
He indicated that his admission or entry into the NDC party was not “official” and so his exit cannot also be “official,” he said in reaction to Sefa Kayi’s query whether he had officially informed the party about his declaration to exit.
