Mahama launches Accra Reset report focused on global health sovereignty

President John Dramani Mahama has launched a report from the Accra Reset Presidential Council outlining recommendations aimed at strengthening health sovereignty and reducing dependence on external systems.

The report, titled A Sovereign Future for Health, was launched on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Ghana News Agency reported that the report contains 10 practical recommendations intended to strengthen global health sovereignty. President Mahama said the next phase would focus on translating the recommendations into country-level action.

He said Ghana and the Accra Reset Presidential Council would work with governments, global health organisations, development finance institutions, philanthropies and private-sector partners to develop practical arrangements around research, regulation, local manufacturing and distribution.

President Mahama also linked the initiative to maternal and child health, describing health as the first area in which the broader Accra Reset agenda would be tested.

Ghana is preparing to assume the chairmanship of the African Union in 2027, and President Mahama said the country would seek to carry the Reset Agenda into wider African policy discussions.

The Accra Reset initiative has positioned Ghana as a participant in international discussions on health financing, domestic capacity and the relationship between developing countries and global institutions.
