NDC urges NPP to share intelligence on alleged drug trafficking operations

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to share any intelligence it has with the appropriate security agencies concerning alleged clandestine drug-processing operations in Ghana.

NDC Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko-Computer, made the call following claims by NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye about alleged laboratories being used to process illicit drugs for export.

Mr Tanko-Computer said that individuals who make specific claims about such operations should provide relevant information to investigators so that the allegations can be assessed and, where appropriate, acted upon.

The comments form part of an ongoing political exchange over recent cocaine seizures and investigations involving Ghana. The NPP has called for Parliament to be recalled and for a bipartisan committee to investigate the cases.

The NDC’s response comes as political parties debate the appropriate institutional response to the narcotics cases, with competing calls for accountability, information-sharing and investigations.
