‘Toy Story 5’ arrives on Disney+ as Pixar franchise moves to streaming

Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” is now available to stream on Disney+, bringing the latest chapter of the long-running animated franchise to home audiences.

The film, directed by Andrew Stanton and co-directed by Kenna Harris, follows Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the other toys as they face a new challenge involving technology and a child’s changing relationship with play.

“Toy Story 5” opened in cinemas on June 19 and has become the highest-grossing film in the franchise, according to Variety, passing the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The movie also reunites major members of the franchise’s original voice cast.

The Disney+ launch is part of a busy week for streaming platforms. The Associated Press also highlighted the return of “A Different World” on Netflix, the thriller “Tuner” on Paramount+ and other new film and television releases.

For families and longtime Pixar viewers, the Disney+ release means the latest “Toy Story” adventure can now be watched at home without a cinema visit.
