It is recalled that the then-flagbearer of the governing party, Nana Akufo-Addo, visited the Kantanka assembling plant on 14 December 2015 and promised to acquire some for his 2016 campaign.

Mr. Akufo-Addo, at the time, said: “Earlier today, I test drove a Kantanka Omama pickup and promised to purchase a few for the upcoming campaign. I assured the Management and Staff of Kantanka Automobile Ltd, and by extension all local manufacturing companies that when I win the 2016 election and become President, my government will support local, Ghanaian manufacturing companies”.

Bridget Otoo FIRED by Metro TV a day after she was hired

News trending on social media suggest that journalist Bridget Otoo who got hired just recently by the Metro TV has been fired.

It’s alleged that the government ordered the management of Metro TV to fire her all because she is an NDC member and has been criticizing the ruling government and bashing them over their corrupt acts.

These allegations are being made by NDC folks after Bridget Otoo never showed up to present the 7:00 PM news on Metro TV this evening.

A member of NDC’s Communications team, Annan Perry Arhin, tweeted and accused the NPP government led by President Akufo-Addo of ordering authorities at Metro TV to sack Bridget Otoo.

He tweeted; “Are you wondering why Bridget Otoo didn’t show up on #NewsNight at 7 pm, Akufo Addo/Bawumia/Npp government have instructed the owners of metro tv to sack her with immediate effect because she bashes them and is a supporter of John Mahama”.

Peter Mac Manu appointed board chair of COCOBOD

Peter Mac Manu New COCOBOD Chair: News coming in from Asaase Radio confirms that the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has appointed Peter Mac Manu to serve as the board chairman for Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), a Ghanaian government-controlled institution that fixes the buying price for cocoa beans, coffee, and shea nuts in Ghana.

Peter Mac Manu was the President’s campaign manager in both the 2016 and  2020 general elections that won the New Patriotic Party over 50% of the valid votes cast to capture and retain power respectively.

As an illustrious member of the New Patriotic Party NPP, Mr. Mac Manu has served the party in several ways; he was the National Chairman of the party from December 2005 to February 2010.

Mac Manu is expected to take over the role from Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, who served as the COCOBOD chairman during President Akufo-Addo’s first term in office.

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, is expected to swear in the new COCOBOD board of directors by Friday 6 August 2021.

Mandate of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD)

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) was established by ordinance in 1947 with the sum of ¢27 million (being Ghana’s share of the net profit from the West African Produce Control Board) as its initial working capital.

The organisation traces its beginnings further back to the cocoa hold-up of 1937, sparked by a farmer-organised boycott.

The board’s mission is to encourage and facilitate the production, processing and marketing of good-quality cocoa, coffee and shea nut in all forms, in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

FixTheCountry demo ongoing: see some of the photos from the ground

Some Ghanaians numbering in about a thousand have hit the streets of Accra to demonstrate against Nana Akufo-Addo’s government to create more jobs under the trending social media hashtag #FixTheCountry.

The demonstrators, mostly youth, are clad in black and red blowing vuvuzelas amidst the chanting of patriotic and war songs.

Totally disregarding social distancing protocols in the over three-kilometer walk demonstration from the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Black Star Square, the protesters brandished placards with inscriptions such as: “Honesty will make Ghana heaven”,Corruption breeds poverty”, “Turn all prisons into hotels and put prisoners on state farms”, “Stop tribal discrimination”, “Freedom of worship is a basic right”, “Fix our education system now” among others.

Some of demonstrators said they are coming from far away Kumasi in the Ashanti region and other parts of the country to pressure political authorities to fix different sectors of the economy.

Some known Ghanaians in the media including Blakk Rasta, and Captain Smart, were seen among the demonstrators.

However some members of the ruling party are pointing fingers at John Mahama, former President of Ghana and the Presidential candidate of the major opposition party NDC who lost to the current President Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2020 general elections for being a sponsor of the FixTheCountry demonstations in the country just to make the government unpopular.
