NPP has the competence to manage the economy but lacks leadership – Manasseh to NPP

Ghana’s Award-winning investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has confessed the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has competent men to manage the country’s economic issues but lacks the leadership to whip through to make this happen.

The government met the ravaging COVID-19 global pandemic that has made it difficult for them to achieve the various fiscal targets. The desperation to fix the economy has pushed the government to introduce several policies that have been met with public opposition. The latest policy which is the 1.5% Electronic Transaction Levy received intense opposition from both the opposition parties and the general public. After its implementation in less than three months, there are calls from the public for the government to seek for IMF bailout as the implemented E-levy which was supposed to generate enough revenue to cushion the economy is only giving less than 10% of the set revenue target.

But Manasseh Azure has asserted that persons who have what it takes to manage the economy are not being given the chance to do so.

“The NPP does not lack the competence to manage our economy. It lacks leadership,” he tweeted.

After rebuffing calls by experts to seek an IMF bailout, the Government finally announced on July 1, 2022, that the President had instructed Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to engage the IMF for a program that will help the country with its balance of payment challenges.
