Your own utterances called for your dismissal – Subin MP to Finance Minister

Eugene Boakye Antwi, the Member of Parliament for Subin, has held Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta responsible for the calls for his removal from office.

Boakye cited Ofori-Atta’s inconsistent statements as the primary cause of the uproar. During an interview on Face to Face on Citi TV, the Subin lawmaker stated, “Every politician must live or die by his word and that is my belief. Once you say something, you must be committed because you don’t have the luxury of trial and error.” Boakye argued that the Finance Minister failed to uphold his promises, resulting in the current economic crisis in the country.

He recalled how Ofori-Atta had assured the Majority Caucus that going to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was not necessary and proposed raising money internally instead, leading to the introduction of the e-levy and the property rate. However, the anticipated revenue of GH¢300 million was not met, with only GH¢30 million generated, representing only 10%.

Furthermore, Boakye claimed that Ofori-Atta had previously stated that the country would not seek help from the IMF, which contradicts the current situation.
