High Court denies bail application for Salomey Awiti Baffoe

The High Court in Accra has refused an application for bail filed on behalf of Salomey Awiti Baffoe in the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok case.

The 40-year-old senior nursing officer from Techiman is facing a charge of abetment of crime in connection with the alleged publication of false news.

In its ruling on Thursday, September 24, the court said the investigation is cyber-related and that releasing the accused at this stage presented a real risk of interference with witnesses.

The prosecution had argued that Baffoe remained necessary to assist investigators, while her counsel maintained that she was entitled to bail and relied on the constitutional presumption of innocence.

The court declined the bail application and directed the Republic to expedite its investigations. The ruling does not determine the accused’s guilt or innocence.
