EU launches ‘EU for a Secure Ghana’ project to tackle terrorism, organised crime and arms trafficking

The European Union has launched the ‘EU for a Secure Ghana’ project to strengthen Ghana’s capacity to prevent and respond to violent extremism, terrorism, transnational organised crime and illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons.

Deputy Interior Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi launched the initiative alongside a national training workshop on the revised United Nations Illicit Arms Flows Questionnaire.

The project is expected to support state institutions, civil society organisations, communities and vulnerable groups involved in security and conflict prevention.

Officials said the programme will also strengthen data collection and reporting on illicit arms flows and support institutional capacity while maintaining attention to human rights and the rule of law.
