NCPTA challenges GES directive on PTA dues, cites High Court injunction

The National Council of Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA) has challenged a Ghana Education Service directive ordering senior high school authorities to stop collecting PTA dues and other unauthorised fees.

The NCPTA says a High Court injunction issued on July 21, 2026 preserved the status quo in its case involving the Attorney General and GES.

GES had directed senior high and senior high technical schools to stop collecting unauthorised charges and refund fees already collected where applicable.

The NCPTA said it supports the Free Senior High School policy and agrees that no student should be denied admission or services because of non-payment. It maintained, however, that its membership and dues are voluntary.

The Council has asked the GES Director-General for clarification on how the September 23 directive applies to NCPTA branches pending the court proceedings.
