Oheneba of Power FM jailed for 14 days after insulting and threatening President Akufo-Addo

  • Oheneba Boamah Bennie is the co-host of Inside Politics, a political talk show on Power FM.
  • His persistent insult and issuance of threats to President Akufo-Addo got him arrested in December 2020
  • Most people know him to be a die-hard symphatiser of the main opposition party NDC.

The ‘fearless’ Power 97.9 radio presenter has been handed with a 14-day jail sentence by Accra High Court presided over by Justice Elfreda Dankyi.

Also according a reportage from Radio XYZ, the broadcaster has also been fined GHC3000 in addition to the jail sentence.

In her ruling, Justice Elfreda Dankyi held that Oheneba Boamah was guilty of the charge against him and that she was charitable with the sentence.

“I have been magnanimous,” the Justice stated when counsel for Boamah, Victor Kojoga Adawudu prayed the court to be charitable.

Oheneba Boamah Bennie of Power FM was in December 2020 detained by the police over a series of threats and insults against President Akufo-Addo.

He was invited to the Polic CID after he was caught in a Facebook live video insulting and issuing threats against the sitting President, Nana Akufo-Addo after the declaration of the 2020 Election results which went in favor of of President Akufo-Addo. He was subsequently detained to assist in further investigation.

“The suspect, 36 years old, has been cautioned on the offences of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace and publication of false news, contrary to Sections 207 and 208(1), respectively, of the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960 (Act 29),” the police said in a statement after questioning Boamah.

It added: “The suspect is being held for allegedly insulting and issuing series of threats to the President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, H E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in a video which he shared on his Facebook page.
