Mahama explains why Ghana rejected US health compact

President John Dramani Mahama has explained Ghana’s decision to reject a proposed United States health compact intended to replace some funding previously provided through USAID.

Speaking in New York, the President said Cabinet had concerns about provisions involving health data, counterpart funding and the regulatory treatment of medical products brought into Ghana under the programme.

Mahama said Ghana would instead manage its health priorities independently while maintaining its engagement with international partners.
