Ghana transport unions defer proposed 8% fare increase

Transport unions at major terminals in Accra have deferred implementation of a proposed eight per cent increase in commercial transport fares.

The Ghana News Agency reported that some operators were awaiting official communication from their national leadership, while others called for a review of the proposed adjustment. Drivers cited rising fuel, maintenance, spare-parts and other operating costs.

The proposed fare increase had been expected to take effect from September 26, but implementation remained unsettled at the time of the latest report.
