Manhyia South MP explains escape after alleged EOCO arrest attempt

Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has explained why he left the Accra High Court after officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office allegedly attempted to take him into custody.

The MP said he was not shown identification, proof of authority or an arrest warrant and chose to drive himself to safety. EOCO later said the attempted arrest formed part of an ongoing investigation and that the MP had previously been invited twice in February.

The circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest and the legal basis for the intended action remained disputed in reports available on September 23.
