No Ghana Card, No Salary – Accountant General tells all Government workers

The Controller and Accountant General has issued a notice informing all government workers that the Department will not pay any Government worker who has not registered with the National Identification Authority and has been issued a Ghana National ID (Ghana card).

In a press release from the Department, it advised all government workers to register for the Ghana card before December 1, else their salaries won’t be processed. The department will therefore work with the NIA to validate all those with Ghana card and expunge those with no Ghana cards from the payroll.

One of the reasons why the government of Ghana introduced Ghana Card/National ID was to help curb shortchanges that have been occurring in the country. The plan was to make the card the only primary document for verification purposes.

The country has been losing millions of Cedis to ‘Ghost names’, and with this approach, it is a sure bet that this cancer in the national payroll will be a thing of the past.
